Silent Running release ‘Darkest Hour’ to raise funds for Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal
Silent Running has not only re-formed after 25 years, but they’re launching their new album 'Follow the Light' and simultaneously raising money for Ukraine’s Humanitarian Appeal.
Peter Gamble, lead singer for Silent Running said;
“It has been hard to take in the events in Ukraine over the past weeks. We have all been watching the news intently feeling all kinds of emotions; sadness and anger at the devastation this war is causing.
We in Silent Running wanted to do something to support the millions of people displaced as attacks on Ukrainian homes and cities continue. For that reason we have decided to release ‘Darkest Hour’ - a song from our new album ‘Follow the Light’ - as a download on Bandcamp to help relief efforts.
After approaching the British Red Cross we have agreed that all profits from the download will go to its Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
In addition we will be fundraising at our forthcoming gig in Voodoo, Belfast on April 29th, 2022.”
Charlotte King, Regional Organiser with the British Red Cross in Belfast said:
“The Ukraine Crisis Appeal will support people in areas currently affected and those potentially affected in the future by the crisis.
Since the conflict began, the Ukrainian Red Cross has distributed 400 tonnes of aid, including food, bedding, blankets, tents, water, and hygiene items across the country. Another 350 tonnes of aid has arrived in Ukraine, including 200 tonnes from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with war-wounded kits, kitchen sets, water and sanitation supplies. More aid is in the pipeline.
The Ukrainian Red Cross has also provided food, warm clothing and other aid to around 7,000 people sheltering in metro stations. They are also providing first aid, and have done first aid training for more than 12,000 people in metro stations and bomb shelters.
Red Cross teams in bordering countries are providing psycho-social support, hot food and drinks, and helping families to stay connected, and will be providing cash assistance, so that families can purchase what they need locally.”
